Usage guide
Help invited people join the conversation
Invite people with a room link and password instead of asking everyone to reveal a phone number or social account.
Choose a public title and room password
The title is visible before entry. Describe the topic briefly and save sensitive details for the conversation inside the room.
Send the room link and password
Participants choose a display name without registering an account. For sensitive conversations, send the link and password through separate channels.
Exchange messages in the same room
Messages are encrypted in the browser before storage. Free rooms allow up to 50 messages; Pro removes this room message limit.

Want to chat without giving out your number?
Most group chats need your number and profile.
There's another way.
Open a chat room on LOCK.PUB.
No sign-up — just a room password.
Send your friends the invite link…
…and the password, separately.
They join in the browser — no app, no account.
Everyone picks a display name.
Talk freely — no numbers, no profiles.
Messages are encrypted in your browser…
…with the room password, before they're stored.
Someone with only the link?
No password, no entry.
Chat with a password, not a profile.
What this tool protects
Display names do not verify identity, and participants can copy or photograph messages. The room password is sent to the server over HTTPS when entry is verified.
Anonymous chat room tool
A private room for anonymous conversation
Use a LOCK.PUB room when participants need a shared conversation without profiles, phone numbers, or the message history of an ordinary social account.
Create a temporary project room
Give a small group one place for an encrypted conversation without adding members to a permanent workspace.
Separate access from identity
Participants choose a display name when they join; access depends on the room link and password, not a public profile.
Anonymous room or ordinary group chat?
LOCK.PUB separates the room from personal messaging profiles and encrypts messages with the shared room password.

Anonymous chat questions
Can people join without a LOCK.PUB account?
Yes. Participants can open the room link, enter its password, choose a display name, and join without registering a LOCK.PUB account.
How are chat messages stored?
Messages are encrypted in the browser with the room password before storage, and the server stores encrypted message data. The password is sent to LOCK.PUB over HTTPS when access is verified, so this is not a zero-knowledge service.
How should I share the room password?
For a sensitive conversation, send the room link and password through separate channels and share them only with intended participants.
Is an anonymous room the same as complete anonymity?
No. LOCK.PUB does not require participant profiles, but a room link cannot prevent recipients from sharing what they see or revealing identifying details themselves.
